Andre Agassi, winner of 60 professional tennis titles, 8 grand slam titles, and a gold medal in the 1996 Olympics once said “If you don’t practice you don’t deserve to win”. In action shooting and hunting, practice is just as important as any other sport. Whether you are a competitive shooter, avid hunter, recreational plinker, or even just a single firearm owner you need to spend time shooting your guns. Grizzly Targets produces many steel targets and accessories that allows any type of shooter to practice shooting.
Grizzly Targets offers laser cut AR500 steel targets and hot dipped galvanized accessories (brackets, hinges and target stands) made in the USA. In this article, I will review a couple of targets specific to 3 gun, but check them out to view their full line of AR500 targets including steel challenge sets, gongs, poppers, silhouettes, and “Build Your Own Range” packages.
3 Gun Post (6″ AR500 circle)
The 3 Gun Post is a great and affordable target for any shooter. This 6″ AR500 plate is bolted to a galvanized angled base that allows the end of a 2×4 to be inserted into it to make the “post”. This target also contains a heavy duty spring system so you can spend your time shooting instead of resetting. The angled base protects the post and hinge mechanism, as well as deflecting the bullet in a safe direction in case of a miss.
I use this target with all three of my competition guns (9mm, 5.56, and 12 ga.) at a variety of distances. Coupling the 3 Gun Post with the BYOR Stand allows shooters ease of setup, mobility, and storage; a huge advantage for all shooters.
Using one 2×4 you can simply make three cuts to create legs and a post for the target to sit atop. I currently have five of these combinations I use to train for 3 gun. I use them as long range rifle as well as close range shotgun/pistol targets; working on transitions from one to the next. Having different height targets provides a better training aspect because it causes the shooter to transition up and down as well as left to right. The 3 Gun Post is very versatile and a great target for any hunter, plinker, or competitive shooter to own.
6″ Ground Popper
The 6″ Ground Popper is just as versatile as the 3 Gun Post. I enjoy shooting this target with my pistol and shotgun, but it could be used with a rifle as well. Just like the target mentioned above, the Ground Popper is made from a 6″ round AR500 plate that is bolted to a galvanized steel base that can be staked into the ground or bolted to a stable platform. This target also comes with a spring system for auto-resetting.
I currently have four of these targets that I use for pistol and shotgun practice. For setup, I drive a 6″ spike through the hole in the base plate into the ground to keep the targets from moving. The ground popper is great for practicing “on the move” drills and can quickly be relocated for different courses of fire. Since they are auto-resetting, I can use the same targets after a reload or when transitioning to another firearm. Combine these targets with a couple of 3 Gun Posts, and you can train all three guns at once while incorporating reloads, transitions, and shooting on the move.
Grizzly Targets also manufactures steel challenge sets, gongs, dueling trees, IPSC (mini and full size), stands, and accessories so that you can customize your setup for whatever your need is. If you are looking to save some money on a package deal, check out their BYOR (Build Your Own Range) section. This is a great way to have a variety of targets for every shooting discipline.
